Castries, St. Lucia March 14, 2023
Having been to St. Lucia back in February...Larry and I tried to find, Rabi, who took us to the south western part of the island. Our ship came into a different area of the port this time so we took a stroll. We passed several large paintings on walls.
We also passed this colorful building.
I liked this emotional statue that was across from the cruise terminal...depicting a loved one arriving back from a trip. This is very understandable. When leaving an island, transporting back is not as easy as getting into your car and driving there. Costly boat and plane fare can make travel back to an island home difficult and costly for the less fortunate.
Not able to find our previous driver, we hired another gentleman, Abraham, who took us to the local beach close to Castries.
Abraham, took us to see George Charles Airport that sat above the town with a short runway that led quickly into a bay.
Abraham took us to Rodney Bay.
What a gorgeous beach!
Abraham bought us two liquid refreshments....Piton, named after the famous Piton Mountains in St. Lucia.
Abraham knew exactly what we needed on a hot St. Lucia beach!
Fantastic boats dotted the bay.
Tourist lined the sunny beach!
What a relaxing view from Pigeon Island National Park.
Abraham took us back to Castries where Larry and I walked through the local market where we came across this fountain that was once used to give locals water.
The market was a hodgepodge of a lot of items.
Ginger
Spices and sauces all locally made.
Nutmeg...one of our favorites
Lots of fresh fruits....mangos galore.
This kind lady directed us to ana area in the market to buy some cassaba...a local bread.
This gentleman sold us some Cherry Casaba and...
Larry enjoyed eating some right away...then we headed back to the ship for a nice sail away.
