Guadeloupe

 Pointe-A-Pitre, Guadeloupe    March 16, 2023

Exiting the port was unusual with a guard and  one way turn stile.

Larry and I were excited  to visit Guadeloupe, our first visit. It is an archipelago of more than 12 islands in the Caribbean Sea. It has been a French possession since 1635....hence the F European Union license plate.

We walked through the city market.

Quite a variety of boats in the inlet.

The local fish market was full of colorful tropical creatures.

This  local showed his ability to blow a conch horn.

We boarded a local bus and headed to Sainte-Anne passing many lovely homes  and sights along the way.

This person was costumed up and putting on a show for the buses stopped at a traffic light.

Sainte-Anne was a lovely beach town. It appeared to be very modern with restaurants, beach shops, and loads of tourist.

Walking back to the ship after our bus ride we saw several large paintings in Pointe-A-Pitre. Larry and I felt the local government was not capitalizing on the tourist dollars. Many of the buildings were quite rundown and in disrepair especially close to the port. This was totally opposite of the Sainte-Anne area.

We saw both old and new structures.

I enjoyed street shopping in Guadeloupe....I bought a new dress for a great bargain price. We boarded the ship and enjoyed the evening in our cozy little cocoon.
