Miami, Little Havana, Florida

Miami, Little Havana, Florida Wed, April 22, 2026

The Miami waters are gorgeous this morning.
Larry and I walked a couple of miles to meet the Miami Trolley.

The Trolley takes citizens on a free ride all over the city.
We were headed to Little Havana, an area in West Miami.

We rode the trolley for about an hour, changing from Coral Way Trolley to the Little Havana Trolley.

We finally arrived on  Calle Ocho. Rooster mascots lined the street.

We visited the infamous Maximo Gomez Domino Park, transformed in 1976 from a previously  empty lot into a dedicated hub for local seniors to play dominoes, chess, and checkers.

Visitors could watch but could not play.

In Domino Park there was an interesting  painting of the leaders from is the Americas hemisphere who had attended a summit back in 1994. Bill Clinton attended.

The park is named after Maximo Gomez, a military leader during The Cuban War for Independence.

We walked the Cuban Walk of Fame on 8th Street.
Didn't recognize any names.

Love the spirit of Little Havana in this picture.
The music is lively.

Calle Ocho was lined with tall trees.

We had to complete our visit by going to the infamous Ball and Chain live music bar and restaurant. Opening in 1935, the place hosted legends like Billie Holiday and Count Basie.

We relaxed at the cabana out back while we perused the menu for a Cuban Sandwich.

After ordering lunch, we watched a local band  play salza, jazz, and all kinds of Latin music.
IT WAS COOL!

The ceiling fans were hooked up to each other by a pulley rope so that only one ran off of electricity, while the other three ran from the pulley rope.

We stopped off at another lively place, Old’s Havana Cuban Bar and Covina.

Love the antiques in here.

Folks were dancing in the street.

This old telephone brought back memories.

We left Little Havana having had a fun time.

We caught the trolley to the port and walked back to the ship....

enjoying the Miami landscape.

The next morning I captured our final sunrise of Miami off our balcony.

We picked up a rental car at the airport to head to Clearwater Beach and then on for a week in Daytona at
Jimmy Buffet's  Margaritaville Resort.

I can hardly wait.
