Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada           Saturday, September 15, 2018

Arrival at Port Charlottetown was at 8:00am. We wondered through a large building of shopping set up for the tourist and went right out to the walkway where our car was waiting. We were soon off to the other side of Prince Edward Island  and the secluded beaches.

It was a drop dead gorgeous day and the the first beach we came to was quiet and very natural.
Larry and I had taken our Honda motorcycle to Prince Edward Island in the early 80's before kids. It was unique back then because you had to take the ferry to the island. It  had lots of farms and small houses sparsely dotting the land.
Todays drive showed us lots of larger homes and more communities.  The Confederate Bridge that had been completed in 1997 linking the island to New Brunswick had made an impact on the natural surrounding of Prince Edward Island with big box stores and more tourist accommodations.
Although the pictures don't show it, several local families were enjoying a day at the beach. We both wished to have our bathing suits and beach chairs to enjoy the sounds of the waves and the salt of the sea especially after we were told that the water was unusually warm for this time of year.

After taking in some of the grand sunshine we headed further north to the Prince Edward National Park.

Along the way wed passed an inlet with oystermen raking the bottom of the waters for a catch of fresh oysters. What a hard job to squeeze the rakes and bring them up to dump into the boat. These guys had to have some arms of steel.

We arrived at our destination to take a little hike to see the red cliffs at the National Park Beach.

I never tire of the beach scenery.

We drove through the area famous  for  the surroundings based on the  series of children's classic books, Anna of Green Gables , by Lucy Maud Montgomery, before returning to Charlottetown.

After returning the car we took a two mile hike through Charlottetown enjoying some unique homes.

What a grand day on Prince Edward Island!
