Tauranga, New Zealand

 Tauranga/ Rotorua, NZ Feb 24, 2025

After the ship docked we all caught a cab to get our car rental and

headed for the hot bubbly cauldrons of Rotorua about an hour away. Jay had his first experience of driving on the left in New Zealand.

Our first stop was at the Redwood
Treewalk just outside of Rotorua.

We enjoyed walking through the redwood forest.

Climbing the spiral to arrive 20-30 foot off the ground among the gorgeous Whakarewarewa Forest of Redwood trees
was spectacular. We spent about three hours wondering down the escalated path and walking through these massive oldies

After lunch we found some of the boiling cauldrons in town.

We walked along the lake spotting...

lots of black swans.

It was so interesting to watch a float plane take off and land on the lake.

A Maori temple

The intricately carved Mari long boat that Larry and I saw in 2009 had a new home. It was displayed in a glass shelter.

Larry and Jay enjoyed swinging before heading back to Taranga.

After our stroll, we made a mad dash to Tauranga to return the car and board the ship by 4:30. We made it with just minutes to spare.

Tomorrow we visit the Bay of Islands.
