New Mexico Part 2 Las Cruses

Las Cruses, New Mexico   April 7, 2021

Road Runner art is found all over the southwest. It is actually easier to spot the art than it is to spot the real thing. HA!

On the way to Tucson, we passed this fantastic road runner on the opposite side of the highway.  We wanted to stop , but there was no place to turn around. Unknown to us, our friends, Jay and Kim, had spent the night there. Anyway on our eastward journey we came through Las Cruses and spotted the bird. This time we were on the right side of the highway to stop.

We had a great picnic lunch here. The bird was fascinating. It was constructed with all recycled materials.

The breast was made of tennis shoes....

The wings had old computers and crutches and various other materials...

We saw fly swatters, utensils, golf clubs,, plastic toys and  VW headlights for the eyes along with many other items.

The most interesting thing...a bird had built a nest up in the rump of the statue.

The Road Runner is Arizona's state bird and it is facing the mountain range east of the city.

                                                                    What a king size bird!
