Jeju City, South Korea

Sunday, April 7, 2019        Jeju City, Jeju Island, South Korea
The Millennium arrived at the dock at 8:00am; however, Larry and I did not get called to immigration until 9:30am. After passing through immigration we took the shuttle bus downtown and walked 30 minutes to Black Dragon Head Rock….a Jeju iconic landmark. 2012 was the year of the dragon and it was believed that making a wish at the dragon point would bring you good luck. We wandered throughout the city.

On the way we came across an authentic Korean/Middle East wedding.
Guests sat at tables with refreshments easily available.

Music and chanting went on and on for a long time.
                                                   The dress was authentic  Korean.

It was interesting to watch. Slowly we tore ourselves away.

Spring is in the air! We  walked several curvy roads toward the cliffs and seaside views.

….. or Dragon Rock in English.
When we finally found the scenic ocean views then, we climbed the rocks below to get a closer look.

At the lowest level of the rocks we came upon a local who was selling a variety of raw minced seafoods….octopus, urchins, conch, and the tiny spicy shelled sea creatures.

A group of about 8 Koreans were sitting on little stools around a tiny table, partaking in a little feast and drinking shots of a Korean e-lick-zer….similar to the white lightening sold in our old hometown of Rocky Mount, Virginia. Larry wanted a picture of the jolly group.

They all gave a big smile for the camera and then proceeded to invite Larry to join them. What an amazing Korean moment of cheers to mankind! Shots were poured…and a spoonful of some minced sea critters was shoved into Larry’s lips. If smoke could come out of his ears…it would have! Larry had made instant friends with these guys. Unbelievably, one of these guy’s son was stationed in Raleigh, North Carolina….small world!

                                                                   The Black Dragon's Head

On we walked across the rocks and up a new set of stairs and followed the road to a little park  running along both sides of a river.

Locks of Love

Such a gorgeous walk on a perfectly 70 degree day! We stopped for a little lunch as some black clouds rolled in.
These interesting statues of travelers were close to the bus stop. The woman is looking in a mirror only the glass is not there...it is actually another statue of her....interesting concept.

We made it back to the shuttle bus just as the rain drops began to fall! Our final day in South Korea was just about wonderful…on to the next stop….Kobe, Japan!
