Muscat, Oman

Muscat, Oman                   Saturday, February  29, 2020             Happy Leap Year Day!

                                                                    Oman’s flag

Oman is somewhat like Aqaba in that the city was built right up to the mountains.

The Oman ruler still docks his two large ships in the harbor of the Oman Sea.

We also spotted a Navy ship harbored right next to our ship.

After passing through immigration, we were given a card to carry  while in Oman.

Larry and I took a leisurely walk into Muscat, one of our favorite Arab cities. The citizens are friendly and the scenery is quite interesting.

The men wear white robes with cute little Arab hats. You might think this is a put on for the tourist on the two ships that are in the harbor...it is not. This is their daily wear....so unique and unusual.  I can only imagine that these unbinding duds are cooler on the hot days of summer.

Not so for the women...they wear black.....all have their hair covered, some have their faces covered with only their eyes revealed.

The King, Qaboos bin Said has erected a few more pictures up for all to enjoy.... ooops, I just found out that he passed in January, 2020. He was a 15th generation descendent of the founder of the House of Al Said. He implemented a modernization  program and ended Oman’s international isolation. Unfortunately, he had no children so he named his cousin, Haitham bin Tariq, his heir.

                                                            Which king is mine?

Larry always enjoys taking pictures in the local markets...it was quite smelly.

                                                            Sharks.......eeeeeeek!

The vegetable market was colorful and wonderfully fresh!

Dates were the big seller here. We were offered free samples many times but quickly refused thinking about the corona virus.

Some friendly locals waved to us.

We continued our walk along the Gulf of Oman.

                                                                It was a gorgeous day!

The local religious leader sung out for the community to pray through the mosque minarets (the tall columns) that act like a loud speaker outside while we walked around noon.

These little crabs were plentiful. Men were catching fish. The water was so clean and clear that you could see the fish bite the hook.

On our way back to the ship, we did a lot of window shopping.

Another great day of enjoying our big beautiful world! Where to next?........Abu Dhabi, EAU.

                                                                         Exciting!
