Shanghai, China Part III

Monday, February 18, 2019    Shanghai, China; while on the  Holland America Westerdam
The cruise terminal is supposed to be the  largest in the world....multi leveled...we were told that it can take care of two large cruise ships easily. We passed through customs  here.
Larry and I headed out on a shuttle bus that took about an hour to get us into The Bund, one of the top ten sights to see in Shanghai.

After our bus ride we found the metro station and went seven stops to the Maglev Train Station....about an hour outside of the city by car....by maglev train, ten minutes. WOW!

Larry had wanted to ride the Maglev, Magnetic Levitation, high speed train.

The train does not have wheels. It floats on an electromagnetic cushion, propelled along a guideway at incredible speeds.

The train took us to the Pudong Airport reaching 305 km an hour or 180 miles an hour.
We were told that it had the capacity to reach the speed of 267mph.

What a smooth fast ride! We were wondering why there are no Maglev trains in the US.
Did I mention....the train station, metro stations and metros are clean as a whistle?
                                                                  Maglev Station Police Officer
The ship offered an excursion to ride the Maglev for $99.00 each. We decided that we could do it on our own for a lot less. So we found the area metro in The Bund and boarded the green line (4) and went six stops to the Long Yang Lu Station costing us 4 Yuan each. We purchased a ticket to ride the train for 160 Yuan…$22.00 for both of us.  So the total trip including our metro ride, cost us $24.00….a lot of savings compared to $198.00 ship excursion.
One American dollar is now equal to 6.75 (7). Chinese Yuan. To convert Chinese Yuan, simple divide by 7.
We had read that the Bund is a scenic walkway along the river...but because of the rain we chose to not attempt it today.

We did capture a few sights in the streets as we headed back to the ship!

Some beautiful oriental instruments! The one on the right sounds like a harp.

At the end of the day, our cabin looks pretty dog gone good!
