Cambodia

Sihanoukville, Cambodia             February 19, 2017

Sihanoukville is Cambodia’s best beach destination and a major fishing port.

We took a tour into Sihanoukville stopping at the Ngean Pagoda, the city’s prominent religious site.

The Lying Buddha

Colorful fresco paintings covered the ceiling and walls inside the temple.

            We stopped at Independent Beach.

Morning ladies meeting on the walkway by the beach

Larry spotted a Rolls Royce here….with poverty very prevalent, corruption was suspected.

Children were out and about everywhere we went…many parents do not send their children to school…emphasis is on bringing home money to help the family.

We visited the local market….very authentic. Oh the sounds and the smells! Both good and bad! We were told to watch our pockets and bags closely…that the local pickpockets could be out and about.
Can you imagine shopping through these piles?

                                                         Absolutely no refrigeration
They eat the chickens feet  here...we've seen them cooked and ready to go.

Next we went tot the local fisherman's boat dock ....such colorful boats!

We visited the local  working fishing village….Incredible…The boats were sold for about $20-30, 000. Fishermen would go out at night and return in the morning with their catch. They made around $20-$30.00 each day on what they brought back from the sea.
We were told....
Green lit boats at night were fishing for squid. White lit boats were net fishing. We were able to spot these in the distance at night from the ship.

Back on the ship we spotted one of the working fishing boat going out for the night's catch as....

the sun was starting to set.
