Damoy Point and Lemaire Channel, Antarctica

Damoy Point and Lemaire Channel,  Antarctica      January 13, 2016

On Wednesday we boated into Damoy Point on Dorian Bay….Snow covered mountains, glaciers, icebergs, penguins, and the gorgeous sunshine. What incredible scenery!

After touring the British hut, we climbed the mountain and sat on top just taking in the superb view.

Who in this world brought this little sailboat to Antarctica....especially through Drakes Passage?

From the top we could view Port Lockroy. Many of the younger passengers laid down on their backs and slid down the mountainside to catch the boats back to the ship. What breathtaking views!

During the afternoon the ship cruised Lemaire Channel.

The area is known as the “Kodak Crack” because so many clicks from cameras can be heard during the traverse. A couple of whales spouted for us to complete the ambiance. The scenery was simply superb!

In the late afternoon we took a PolarCirkel boat cruise through the icebergs spotting penguins on floating icebergs and one gorgeous seal soaking up the sun….What an amazing ride…cool breezes and all!

The icicles hanging off the icebergs were gorgeous!

Life is good. This 2 week leg of the trip is quickly coming to an end.
