New Hampton, New Hampshire Ski Adventure 2014

Clearwater Beach, Florida to Manchester, New Hampshire
Thursday, January 30, 2014

We left the condo this morning at 5:00am to drop the car off and get to the airport to catch our flight out at 7:00 am. At 6:45am Delta announced that the pilot had not arrived from Atlanta and that the flight was delayed till 9:00am. OH NO! That little change would make us late for our connecting flight in New York at Laguardia at noon. What can you do but just go along with the show? Larry managed to get us another flight out of Laguardia at 3:00pm getting us into Manchester at 4:30.
But....
When we landed in New York, the attendant told us that our original flight was delayed and it was leaving at 12:30pm . Yippy! We jumped on board and landed in Manchester around 2:00pm.
Larry enjoyed being greeted by the moose...now if we could only spot a live one.
The temps were crisp upon our arrival in New Hampshire. We picked up a cool Prius rental and were in New Hampton by 4:00.
Home Sweet New Hampshire Home

Kristy and Brian drove up with their Garmen taking them to Hampton, New Hampshire. They called saying they were at the beach. We didn't know that New Hampshire even touched the Atlantic Ocean but it does...a few hours out of the way. They finally got their Garmen  going  to New Hampton and arrived around 10:00pm.

The next morning we planned to drive to the Manchester Airport to pick up Chad and Kathy  at 9:00 am. They had flown the red eye out of San Diego (on a delayed flight as well) arriving in Newark in time to find that their 8:00am  flight was delayed until 3:00pm. Larry suggested that they try getting a flight into Boston, which they did and were able to arrive at 11:00am just another hour commute to pick them up. Anyway, everyone finally got to New Hampton and we all just decided to call it a day without hitting the slopes.
Larry wasted no time in finding the MAN CAVE!

We watched home travel movies, read, and had a fabulous dinner of pork roast, broccoli casserole, asparagus, smashed potatoes, apple and pumpkin pie. Kristy did some fabulous precooking and we were so glad to just warm it all up, eat, and go to bed. Those early morning hours had us all ready for a good night sleep.

Gunstock Mountain Ski Resort    Saturday, February 1, 2014

We woke the next morning to a gorgeous sunrise and watched the snowmobiles streak across the frozen lake. After breakfast we headed out for a day of skiing at Gunstock Ski Resort.

Catching a shuttle bus to the mountain.

We were fortunate that the temperatures were moderate in the 20-30's. We were so happy that we had missed the single digits and negative temps that had occurred the week before... but that roaring fire was a welcome sight at the end of the day.

The day ended with a fabulous dinner...Homemade Lasagna and Spinach Salad...AKA Kristy to the rescue. That night we played a new game called "A Ticket to Ride" OH MY it was FUN! Perhaps it was because Kay wiped the board clean with a surprise win!

The tale of Kristy's new boots....Kristy put her 21 year old boots on the first day of skiing and ooops they got a little crack in them. "Do you think I can still ski in these?" she asked. Mom said, " Try pretend skiing right here in the lodge"...so she bent her knees and wiggled her bottom  just a little(cause you know that is a must when it comes to skiing) and the whole boot cracked in half. Needless to say she rented boots the first day and she found  great pair of used ones at Ragged Mountain. Aren't they HOT!

At the end of the day...oh a seat feels my-t-fine!

Warming up by the fire at the end of a fantastic day!

Loon Mountain Resort and the Ice Castles

Our third day of skiing at Loon Mountain Resort was awesome. Lindsey and Debi Suggs drove two and  a half hours from Sugar Bush Ski Resort in Vermont to join us at Loon. It was good to see them!

What a great looking group of ski bums!

First things first......A ride on the gondola all the way to the top!

The view was awesome and the trip down was fabulous!

Lunch time...a good little break!

Ahh! Life is Good!
The line up before the descent.

Last run for the old crowd!
Nice enough weather to enjoy a little relaxing outside....

before heading off to the Ice Castle.

One of three ICE CASTLES in the United States....the other two are in Colorado and Utah.

What a bunch of fun lovers!!!!

Just one more time...WEEEEEE!

As the sun began to set.....

The inner lights came on.

What a spectacular show!
Lindsey and Debi joined us for the rest of the evening watching Kathy and Chad's DVDs of their special California Island and eating a Mexican Feast. What a wonderful day for everyone!

Loon Mountain Ski Resort and Common Man Spa
Tuesday,  February 4, 2013

Kathy made a wonderful breakfast this morning. Waffles....Yummy!

While the kids went back to Loon for a second day of skiing,  Larry and I went to the Common Man's Spa to enjoy Kristy and Brian's Christmas Present...massages, hot tub, and swimming. What a relaxing day to recover from all the down hill skiing.

During the evening we had an unbelievable buffet of leftovers, fresh chocolate cherry cookies and a game of Catch Phrase. Life is good and it was great to spend time together.

Today the kids took off  for their Spa Day with about 6 inches of snow on the ground.

Larry and I hunkered down to figure out if our flights were going  to be delayed or canceled. This morning was one major snow storm in the east..

Chad and Kathy's flight canceled at about 11:00am and Larry called immediately to reschedule our flight as well as theirs. Chad and Kathy were going with us  to the Manchester Boston Airport; although, they were flying first to Philadelphia on their way to San Diego and we were heading to Detroit before heading south to Tampa. Brian and Kristy's car would be loaded with all the ski equipment and winter clothing...filled to the top of the ceiling. No room for anything extra except Molly!

Anyway, flights were rescheduled finally by one o'clock. The girls came home from the spa and made fresh broccoli cheese soup and we settle down for an quiet afternoon of reading and using the  computer with a great fire blazing while the snow flakes continued to fall. It was a wonderful relaxing unexpected additional day of pure enjoyment. We knew that the morning was going to be early with slick roads  to travel down so after a game or two, we all headed for bed dreaming about all the good times we had this past week.

Everyone was on the road this morning by 10:00am. We arrived at the airport in time to grab a quick bite for lunch. Kathy and Chad boarded their plane on time, while Larry and I had a three and a half hour delay. Despite the delay, we were able to connect with our Detroit flight just in time. We arrived in Tampa at 9:30pm, about the same time that Kathy and Chad arrived in San Diego and Kristy and Brian's arrival in Oakton.
