Mexico
Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico Tuesday, March 8- 15, 2022
It was a fishing village for commercial and sportsman fishing.
We enjoyed the wide variety of vessels in the area. I wish Larry had had the time to go out and have a Mexican fishing experience....oh well, we'll save that for the next time.
The views across the Sea of Cortez.
Larry enjoyed watching the tractor trailer getting filled with fresh fish off the commercial ships.
This was an interesting facility.
WOW! What a fantastic etching inside the building.Animals that could be found in the area.
Incredible views of volcanic fields from long ago.
Watch out for these prickly needles.
During our picnic lunch we all enjoyed watching the lizard that was protecting his territory...puffing up and making some unusual noises to scare off other lizards.
We rose early one morning to take a boat out to Bird Island...a two and half hour ride.
Chad and Kathy enjoyed kayaking around the shoreline.
Larry joined another passenger in kayaking.
The ride back to shore was mighty fine with all the margaritas you could drink.
CEDO is the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans.
This environmental center focused on desert and ocean ecosystems in the Sea of Cortez which is often called the Gulf of California.
Lots of unique bones and fossils were on display.
We walked to the top of a tall sand dune to view the next village in the south.
On our last day in Penasco, Larry and I rode the bicycles to the Malecon while Kathy and Chad did some final bird watching at the beach.
Puerto Penasco Malecon had lots of tourist shops, restaurant and bars.
We enjoyed seeing the the Organ Pipe Cactus.
We left Mexico to take Chad and Kathy to the airport in Phoenix with lots of memories of our Mexican adventure.
Seals barked and swam around our boat.

We had a nice lunch at a Mexican chicken grill. Lively music and friendly conversations with the locals made for an interesting meal.

What a joy to travel with these two!
We enjoyed watching the sunset in a local beach before returning back to the house.

After crossing the border back into the United States on Tuesday morning we stopped at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument for a quick visit. We all had been to this park previously and agreed that it was one of our favorites.
