Aqaba, Jordan. Sunday, February 23, 2020
Larry and I caught a shuttle bus out of the port and walked into the tallest building in Aqaba....
7 floors up.
In the entrance three large pictures were hanging on the wall...
The past leader
The present leader
The future leader of Jordan
We took the elevator to the top to find a wonderful retreat .There was a rooftop restaurant with no one there but the waitress and us. What a wonderful place to spend the afternoon.
Aqaba backs up to the mountains. Most of the surrounding buildings were 3 or 4 stories.
We enjoyed the views from the top of our little oasis were nice. The temperatures were in the pleasant 70’s.
It was interesting to see the local Mosque in town.
A large Mosque on the hillside
The Mosque’s Minaret called the locals to pray over a loudspeaker 5 times a day.
It was great to see clean clear skies with no smog.
Aqaba is an ancient city having been settled around 4000 BC.......WOW! As Jordan’s only outlet to the Red Sea, Aqaba attracts water sports enthusiasts from around the world. The waters are crystal clear.
Today Aqaba is a resort area with southern beaches ...great for water skiers, snorkelers, and sunbathers....although the women do not uncover themselves in bathing suits in public.
Upon paying the waitress for our tea, Larry spotted the numerous water pipes stacked behind the counter. Jordanians enjoy smoking these Hookas with multiple pipes attached.
We enjoyed our quiet day in Aqaba.....we will be returning in about a month with a planned tour to visit Jordan’s famous National Park, Wadi Rum.
The sail away had an awesome sunset!
