We had lots of great memories to think about as our ship entered back into Drakes Passage.
A map of the Antarctic Peninsula where we had visited
The seas started rolling the ship throughout the night; we
were back where the warm seas and the cold seas start to mix.
We listened to lectures about
Antarctica, Antarctica Adventurers, and
the Antarctic Treaty. This kept us very busy for the first day at sea on our
return to Ushuaia. The second day was smoother. We attended lectures on
Penguins, the Formation of Antarctica, and Global War. I found these to be very
interesting.
We spent some time sitting by the virtual fireplace...no dust or ashes.
The captain had the passengers up to the bridge during the day as
well as a nice cocktail party on the observation deck to toast our final
evening. We all had really become quite close with many of the passengers and
crew.
This is where you have to go to see the Emperor Penguins...what a hike that would be!
A more
personal relationship with passengers was created from being on a small ship with fewer
passengers and crew. We were fortunate to make good friends with Bob and Susan
from Tennessee, Vera from California, Diane from Maine, John and Andrea from
Mexico, and Fiona and Mike from Ireland as well as many others from India,
Great Britain, Sweden, Australia, and New Zealand. The ship was truly covered
by people from all over the world.
