Northern Midwest Adventure July 28- September 29, 2023
Clifftop, West Virginia
One our most favorite things to do is jam with our friends from Pennsylvania.
After leaving the Clifton Festival in West Virginia, Larry and I headed off on an adventure out west.
We saw so many unique sights.
The Corn Palace in South Dakota has changed to a much larger venue since taking Kristy and Kathy there.
Prairie Dog Town always is a hit.
We enjoyed camping several nights in the Badlands, South Dakota.
We enjoyed hiking the scenic trails.
After the Badlands we headed to Sturgis, South Dakota. Our first night in Sturgis there was a magnificent sunset.
Larry had always wanted to go to the Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota so I suggested that we go this year in celebration of his birthday.
We checked out some iconic spots in Strugis.
The legendary Buffalo Chip was another hot spot.
These collector guitars were on display.
The famous Buffalo Chip bike wash.
Looks like a bison to me.
We luckily were able to get tickets to the infamous Medora outdoors Musical.
T R Park had many unusual rock formations.
The next day we took a boat around the Apostle Islands in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
Devil’s Tower was our first riding destination.
We unloaded the Vespa and rode it everywhere. It was interesting to get waves and thumbs up from so many Harley Bikers.
If you look close, you’ll spot some climbers making their way to the top! Eeeeeek!
Another exhilarating hike around the base of the tower! I’ve always wanted to do this.
One more thing marked off my bucket list.
A full rainbow
Crazyhorse Monument….this is gonna be something if it ever gets completed.
An unusual thing to purchase.
We enjoyed a quick stop at Mount Rushmore.
We enjoyed riding through The Needles in South Dakota.
Looks like a bison to me.
We luckily were able to get tickets to the infamous Medora outdoors Musical.
Wild bison and horses were in Rosevelt National Park. The park also hosts thousands of Prairie Dogs.
T R Park had many unusual rock formations.
Cannonball Rock Formations
Little Missouri River
Buttes are throughout the park.
Our next stop was the Upper Peninsula in Michigan.
We headed to Pictured Rocks National Shore in Munising, Michigan. The area has numerous waterfalls.
We set up the RV and took off for a scooter ride.
We took a hike into this gorgeous forest. The trees were tall and full of greenery and there were signs of fall approaching.
The next day we took a boat around the Apostle Islands in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
It was an overcast day….we were happy that it didn’t rain.
Such a quaint village!
A couple of days later we took the Pictured Rock Cruises out of Munsing, Michigan.
They took us on a mighty fine ride along 40 miles of coastline on Lake Superior.
The sun was shining to make the water such a brilliant color.
Larry and I caught another ferry to Mackinac Island and spent the day walking all over the place. Motorized vehicles were not allowed.
Exquisite homes lined the streets with waterfront scenery. The last time we came here we rode two seated bicycles with Kathy all over the island.
Cars are not allowed on the island. You see many horse drawn carriages.
We had a wonderful day!
The ferry ride back to the mainland gave us a magnificent sunset.
The next day we drove to Frankenmuth to see our good friends, Dan and Suzie.
Frankenmuth is known for their Bavarian style architecture. Dan and Suzie showed us around the largest Christmas store in the world, Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland. A quaint chapel was on the property to remind us of the reason for the season.
Larry and I had a wonderful trip out west going to so many places that we had never been. Even on our side of the world there is plenty to see and do.
