Melbourne, Australia Wednesday, March 14-21, 2018
We drove about three hours Wednesday morning arriving in Melbourne about 10:00am. Although the morning rush hour was well over, you would have never known it. We have had a easy couple of weeks driving on the left side of the road because of being in the rural parts of southern Australia. Driving in the city is altogether another animal. It certainly gave us a few thrills. The Aussies love their horns.
We arrived at our new home around noon after returning the rental car.
This is a circa 1890 terrace that our friends Dick and Stephanie refurbished three years ago. A lovely three bedroom two bath with two bicycles was exactly what we needed to explore the city of Melbourne.
We soon turned our bikes into the city traffic and were biking right along the busy streets with cars, trams, trains, and other bikers whizzing right along with us....or by us.
An unusual looking mode of tranportation

The first day we rode bikes down Merri Creek Path...a limitless bike ride. We could have gone on for days and days on it.
Signs of fall were everywhere.

We enjoyed stopping off at Edinburgh Gardens...for a little break.
We passed by a nice lawn bowling green...a favorite activity of the Aussies.
The area was full of old churches.
Art was everywhere.
Graffitti is an accepted art form.
A whole street displayed it
The iron trellises and rails were an Aussie architectural norm.

Melbourne often brags that it is one of the easiest cities to get around in...we agree.
We enjoyed a day on the Hop on Hop Off Bus.
Melbourne is a good mixture of tall sky scrapers and ....
majestic old structures as well as...
very modern architecture.
Melbourne has one of four tallest ferris wheels in the world....along with Singapore, London, and Las Vegas.
A carriage ride through the city is a weekend only event....too much traffic on the weekdays.
We enjoyed a night out on ST. Patrick's Day at Dan O'Connels.
A live band made the night festive.
Melbourne is full of wonderful parks. The city is loaded with full grown trees.
Queen Victoria Market .....celebrating 140 years of existence.
Queen Victoria Market had everything from deli foods to ......
seafood to....
fresh flowers.
The live music at the market was outstanding.
Federation Square
Kilda Marina
Kilda Beach
Melbourne Beach
Australian War Memorial
Larry and I enjoyed biking all over Melbourne. Everyday was a new adventure.
