The sunrise was quite stunning while arriving into Mykonos.
What a scenic island!
What a lovely harbor! Mykonos is a well preserved port of narrow alleys
and white washed cubical structures with blue trim dotting the hillside.
What a gorgeous waterfront!
The water was crystal clear!
Larry and I took a shuttle bus from the pier to the edge of
town and then began to meander through the maze of little curvy streets
enjoying the little shops, pricey cafes, galleries, jewelers, and trendy
boutiques along the way.
boutiques along the way.
Old wells for drawing water
There were a few renegades who painted their property with something other than blue.
This little island is a hot spot for rich and famous. It is known to be quite crowded during the summer months with a partying crowd and nude sunbathers.
The streets and walkways were
actually paved in rock.
We passed numerous
whitewashed chapels during our walk.
After spending the morning wondering the tiny streets we headed toward the beach...walking a gorgeous path along the coast......
just leave me here....PLEASE....WITH MY MAN!!!!!!
We finally came upon the famous landmarks of Mykonos....the windmills....they haven’t been used since 1920.
The wind on
the bluffs was brisk and we understood immediately why it is often referred to
as "The Island of Winds”.
This area is referred to as "Little Venice"...sure reminded me of it.
One gentleman hollered to Larry, “You look like a Floridian”
with his flowered shirt and white hat. The Greek gentleman lived in Clearwater for
six months of the year and Mykonos for the remaining time. The world seemed a
bit smaller.
The local boats were painted up such delightful bright colors.
What a magical place to visit! The local boats were painted up such delightful bright colors.
We enjoyed a little lunch and some ice tea at one of the
sunny seaside cafés, taking in the gorgeous views of the bay. It is obvious
that the area is absolutely a fabulous place to be when the sun sets….
Our ship was pulling out at 5:30….too early to enjoy the sunset on land.
