Barcelona, Spain Saturday, April 4, 2015
The Sovereign docked in Barcelona at 8:00am. 2,500 lively
Spanish passengers were disembarking today. They were dancing in the
disembarkation line going off the ship. The Spanish are the loudest and happiest
partiers that we have ever encountered on any cruise. Around 10:00am Larry and
I caught the T3 Bus out of the port to the city center.

We decided to have a leisure walk down Las Rambles (a famous
picturesque restaurant/shopping plaza that we visited five years ago). We
enjoyed the tree lined avenue taking in all the Spanish architecture. AWESOME!
The statues....
the Spanish architecture...
the palm trees....
the flowers....all make Las Rambles an incredible walk.
We passed by the open air market and had to take a peek at
all the fresh produce and meats hanging about the booths. It brought back
memories of our stay in Budapest where we shopped daily for our meals.
On we walked for 3 miles heading to Sagrada Familia, the
famous cathedral that was being built by the Spanish architect, Gaudi. Francesco Villar began the project in 1882. At age 31
Antoni Gaudi took over the job of building this
magnificent cathedral that is optimistically projected to be finished in 2026
making it more than a hundred years in the process of being constructed. He
unfortunately died on the site at the age of 58 when injured by a tram in 1926 and did not get to see the project
completed. We walked through a well kept
park with flowering red buds to view of this incredible masterpiece.
While walking we had passed by another piece of architecture
that Gaudi had constructed with the curvy lines.
After a bit of lunch we caught #19 Bus half way back to the ship.
A welcome seat!
We had walked two and half hours to the cathedral….with all the sights the time went by too fast. We passed the ……Arch….another super piece of architecture.

We walked past a business that rented electric
bikes, tiny two seat electric cars and
segways….. perhaps the next time in Barcelona we would try one of those. We
made it back to the T3 Bus just in time to board the ship at 4:30pm. Whew!!!!
It was a hustle! What a day of sights….tomorrow, Easter Sunday, April 5, will
be a welcome restful day at sea to recoup from all the exquisite sights that we have taken in over the past three
days!
