Larry and I had a great morning. Breakfast was a joy on the back deck. We ate and talked with our Swedish friends, Bornj and Karin, who were leaving the ship to head back to Sweden. From the back of the ship we watched the tractor trailers being unloaded ....fresh fruits, vegetables and supplies for the next cruise were being loaded by a small crate lifting machines. Masses of people were pulling luggage and boarding busses to catch their plane and trains home. Larry and I and a few others were just staying out of the way. At 10:00 we walked off of the ship and took a short ride into Civitavecchia, a beautiful little seaside town.
Going from the ship to the town we passed a fleet of fishing boats, several cruise ships, and some private yachts. Civitavecchia is a huge natural port and it is busy with the comings and goings of all kinds of watercrafts as well as well as people.
Isn't this beach inviting?
The town was a mixture of the old days with its castle walls and the old Italian style building stacked side by side going down the main street. They had McDonald's and Subway so we felt we were in an updated modern part of the town.
Plaza with the old castle walls beyond
The city had built a wonderful plaza by the sea with sidewalk cafes and walkways that led down to the Mediterranean Sea.
We enjoyed using the WIFI at a seaside cafe and while I updated the blog, Larry walked around the city shopping area just a block over and found the post office to mail some postcards.

Our favorite WIFI sidewalk café by the plaza
After dinner and a gorgeous sunset, we watched the latest Batman movie and actually drifted off to sleep with the gentle rocking of the boat. What a terrific day! We are looking forward to more to come!
